DAY 4 Hobart and Richmond

Look around Hobart urban area

Franklin Wharf

Everybody in Tasmania says,  "Australia's most beautiful state capital city is here Hobart city".
Hobart city is introduced like,
"Straddling the picturesque Derwent River at the foot of majestic Mt. Wellington's forested slopes, Hobart was founded as a penal settlement in 1803.
It's the second-oldest city in the country after Sydney, and it certainly rivals its mainland counterparts as Australia's most beautiful state capital".
Exactly, there are lots of impressive and beautiful sights around the Hobart waterfront.

Michael urges me to go to the Salamanca Market where many people enjoy the sales of arts and crafts every Saturday(between 8 and 3).
On the way to the market, I can see the beautiful sea and many ships or boats are moored to the buoys around this waterfront.
Outshore of the waterfront is the Sullivans Cove. The Sullivans Cove is at the mouth of the Derwent  River and there are three wharves along the cove. They are Macquarie Wharf (at the north side of the cove), Franklin Wharf ( west) and Princes Wharf(south).  These wharves are crowded by any kind of ships, big cruisers, or yachts. Those ships seem to prepare for next sailing, but they are enjoying their relaxing time in the morning sunshine.

タスマニアにいる人は、誰もが「オーストラリアの最も美しい州都市は、ここ、ホバート市だ！」と云う。ホバート市は次のように紹介されている。「絵のようなダーウエント川をまたがって、荘厳なウエリントン山のすそ野に、ホバート市は１８０３年流刑地として創設され、シドニーについで、二番目目に古い都市であること、そして、オーストラリアで最も美しい州都市として、オーストラリア本土と都市と競り合っている。」 まさしく、このあたりでは、心に残るような、美しい景色が沢山ある。
マイケルの勧めで、サラマンカマーケットに行く。そこでは、毎週土曜日には、工芸品や細工物の売り出しがあり、多くの人がそのセールスを楽しんでいる。
そこへ行く途中の海岸ぞいの岸壁には、多くの船が係留してある。
この海岸の海辺はサリバンの入り江で、ダーウエント川の河口に接している。そして、３つの埠頭がり、入り江の北側にマックアリー波止場、西がフランクリン波止場、南に、プリンセス波止場がある。
これらの波止場には、大型クルーザーや多くのヨットで混み合っている。それらの船は次の航海の準備をしているように見えるが、今朝の太陽の日差しを浴びて、のんびりしているようだ。

Michael points to the orange ship and says "That orange ship is an ice breaker boat and it sails at the Antarctic Ocean." I realize that this Tasmania island is located near the Antarctic Ocean.

マイケルが、オレンジ色の船を指して「あれは、南極海で活躍する砕氷船だよ！」と説明する。
さすがに、ここタスマニア島は南極海に近い島だということを実感する。

Salamanca Place on Saturday

Along the Hobart waterfront at Salamanca Place are crowded by lot's of visitors on Saturday.
Many of shops which sell arts and crafts appear around the square at that place.

Michael says, "Especially on Saturday  (between 8 and 3), the area becomes a giant market with a large number of tent shops, where still more local artists join produce growers, bric-a-brac sellers, and itinerant musicians and wares". and some of the farmers or orchard families sell their own products.

ホバート海岸沿いのサラマンカ・プレイスは、土曜日には、ビジターがたくさん来て賑わう。
平日でも、その場所で多くの店が、工芸品や手芸雑貨などを売っている。

マイケルの説明では、土曜日の朝８時から午後の３時の間、その辺はたくさんのテントショップができ、大きな市場になる。そこには、さらに、近郊の工芸家達、古い家具業者や、旅芸人は、自家製の自慢の商品をならべ、また、近郊からは果物や野菜も売り出される。

Today's weather is changeable. Just like the weather in the pictures doesn't continue and after then it becomes rain shower like a squall. We run into one of the craft shops' tent in a hurry and take shelter from the rain. Then I am looking over the goods at the shop with listening to the chat with Michael and the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper says" I don't like the rain but this is good rain for us because many people visit my shop for taking shelter from the rain. Then I'm happy if some of them look around the goods and buy some.
When it rains the tent shop is crowded and no space left for others but when the rain is getting to stop, most of the people in the shop are moving out.

今日の天気は、変わりやすく、写真のように、さっきまで晴れだったのが、にわかに、空が曇り、スコールのような激しい雨が降る。あわてて、近くのテントショップに雨宿り。ついでに、その店の商品の品定めをしながら、マイケルと店主の会話に耳を傾ける。
「雨は、商売人にはいやな雨さ！だが、今日の場合は、好いい雨だよ、普段来ない客まで入ってくれるからね！たくさんのお客が、雨が止むまで大勢この店に暫らく、居ていろいろ見てもらい、買ってくれればうれしいよ。」
雨が降っているときは混み合っていたが、止んだら、その店に居た、ほとんどの客は居なくなったが、また、雨がふってきてお客は舞い戻ってくる、店主は慈雨に、ホクホク。

There are many kinds of crafts and artworks in those shops of tents or storage house stores in the old sand buildings. Those items made from regional timber, myrtle, sassafras, and Huon pine, are popular. You'll find more interest in these goods.

多くの手芸品や工芸雑貨が、テントの店や、古い砂壁のビルの倉庫にある店などの店頭にならべられている。 これらの商品では、地元タスマニアのテインバーの木やギンバイカ、ササフラスなど潅木、そして、ヒゅーオン・パインなどが、人気が高い。 これらの商品を眺めていると、興味が尽きない。

We drive up to the north from the center of the city and get to Queen's Domain.
On the way to there, I take a picture of the Organ Pipes of Mt Wellington.
The rock's shape of the south side wall seems like a pipe organ.
Probably many rock climbers long for climbing up at these rocks'  wall.
When I see these rocks, I feel, as if I could hear solemn music from the Organ Pipes.

街の中心部から、北へ向けて車を走らせる。その途中で、オルガン・パイプの近接写真を撮る。
その山の南側の壁岩の形が、パイプオルガンに似ている。
世界中のロッククライマーがあこがれる、オルガン・パイプ。この岩の壁から荘厳な、オルガンパイプの音色が聞こえてきそうだ。

The pillar rocks sheer up to the top of Mt Wellington. They are called them "The Organ Pipes"
柱状の岩が、ウエリントン 山の頂上に向け、そそり立っている。それらの岩は「ザ・オルガンパイプ」と呼ばれている。

Queen's Domain

There is a viewpoint of the hill. We park the car there for while and take some pictures of the beautiful houses and Mt Wellington.
The scenery is excellent at the fine weather in the .picture below.

車はクイーンス・ドメインに到着。その丘の上に展望台が、あり、美しい家並みとウエリントン山が見晴らせる場所に車を止めて、その美しい光景を写真に収める。
その景色は、下の写真のように、良い天気に恵まれ、素晴らしい。

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are in Queen's Domain and enough worthwhile to visit and to see the

plants which from all over the world are here and more than 6000 exotic and native species in all.
A big cork oak tree provides some shade for the visitors.

その近くの、ロイヤル・タスマニア・ボタニカル・ガーデンは、見ごたえのある植物園だ。
そこには、その、土地のものから、世界中から集めたエキゾチックな植物まで、全部で６０００種以上もある。
オーストラリア大陸の典型的なユーカリの大木が来園者に木陰を提供してくれている。
There are many gardens from other countries here. You can see a typical Japanese garden here. One of the gardens has something special Japanese atmosphere by bamboo, pine trees, water-weeds and a small bridge in the pond.

ここには、多くのオーストラリア以外の国の庭園があり、典型的な日本庭園もある。その庭には竹林、木、水草や、i池の小さな橋が、日本的な特別な雰囲気を醸し出している.。

They grow rare plants of the Antarctic in this cool chamber like an icebox. You can never see these plants without here except the Antarctic.

南極でしか見られない珍しい植物をこの冷蔵庫のような特別室で育てている。

The weather is getting fine. Michael says "Let's go to Richmond! It's an old town and you can see a lot of interesting things. "  " OK, let's go !" 

天気がよくなってきた。 マイケルは「リッチモンドへ行こう！古い街だが、面白いものが沢山見れるよ！」 「OK、行こう！」

We get to Richmond where is located northeast of Hobart city. This town has something historical.  Some of the houses here are keeping the historical style of Georgia (1820 ～1830).

Michael says"This town has some historical, gentle and calm mood by those old style houses."

私達は、ホバートから２４km北東に位置したリッチモンドに到着。歴史のある町だ。
街のたたずまいは、１９世紀初頭のジョージア様式(1820～1830)の建物が残されている。
マイケルは、「この町は、それらの古い家によって、歴史的に、穏やかで、静かな雰囲気をかもしだしているようだ。」

This is a good place for a date. The couples are enjoying the chat.

There are some interesting things to see in this town. And they are Old Hobart Town Model Village, Richmond bridge and St John Catholic Church that is the oldest Catholic church in Australia.


この町には幾つかの、興味深い、見るべきもがあり、オールド・ホバートタウン・モデルビレッジ（Old Hobart  Town Model Village)、リッチモンドブリジ（Richmond Bridge）、やオーストラリアで一番古いカソリック教会のセントジョン・カトリック教会（St John Catholic Church)、がある。

 They are displaying the historical model village there which accurately replicates in miniature of the lifestyles and houses of Hobart in 1820.

オールド・ホバートタウン・モデルビレッジ（Old Hobart  Town Model Village)では,１８２０年のホバートの村の生活様式や歴史にある出来事を精巧なミニチュア模型を使って表現してある。

A sailing ship anchors at Hobart harbor. Many convicts were sent here far from their native country.
ホバートで帆船が碇を下ろしています。たくさんの囚人が、故国（イギリス）から、ここに送られた。

The villagers are busy for carrying some of crops or washing.
村人は、穀物や、洗濯物を運ぶのに忙しくしています。

It looks like a prison and an execution ground.
監獄と刑の執行場のようです。

Richmond Bridge and St John Catholic Church
Richmond Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in Australia, is harmonizing with the beautiful brown colored arch and the scenery around. The beautiful bridge's construction completed using convict labor in 1825. The labors of the building were very hard and sever jobs. A guard, whose duties was including flogging the prisoners, was unpopular because of his ferocity. When he was drunk and slept at Richmond Bridge, someone pushed off the edge of the bridge. Then, he fell down the river and died. No one was convicted of his murder.  And his ghost may be heard as you pass by the Bridge.

オーストラリアで、一番古い石造りの橋、リッチモンド・ブリッジ は、その美しいアーチと砂岩の色が周囲の風景とうまく調和している。
この美しい橋は、1825年、この地に送られてきた受刑者の手で建造された。大変な重労働であったそうだ。
当時の看守の中に、受刑者に対し、残忍な扱いをする看守がおり、受刑者に嫌われていたが、酔っぱらて眠りこけているところを、誰かに、橋のヘリから、突き落とされ、た亡くなった。
ただ、この件に関し、犯人が分からず誰ひとり罪に問われなかった。後々、この橋の近くを通ると、その亡くなった看守の幽霊の声が聞こえるそうな。

This simple Church is constructed of sandstone and it's built on the hill of near Richmond Bridge.

On Sunday, many people might go to Church at the hill and they pray for the betterment of the lives or their spiritual home.

この素朴な教会は、砂岩で建造され、リッチモンド橋の近くの丘の上に建てられている。 日曜日には、多くの人々は丘の上のこの教会に行き、明日のよき生活を願って、あるいは、精神的憩いを求めて、祈りを捧げている。

Day5

DAY 3 The Bus tour to Hobart

The Bus tour in Tasmania (Devon Port to Hobart)

In quiet dawn, Spirits of Tasmania is calmly brought alongside the wharf of Devon Port.    A loud voice from the speaker in the cabin announces the arrival and it awakes me. Through the porthole, I see fields and houses approaching up, I am impressed deeply. the scenery."Oh! this is the first scenery of Tasmania land, Magnificent !" and shout "At last, I am here in Tasmania!" Then I get off the ship and take a rest for a while at the waiting room in the terminal house beside the wharf. The room is smaller than the one at Melbourne harbor and has about 30 chairs.

The reception lady kindly teaches me where to go for breakfast and when to take a bus; besides she asks the restaurant for my breakfast available by telephone. 

Then I go out and find her recommend a restaurant in five minutes walk.

The restaurant opens from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. for breakfast.

静かな夜明けの中、スピリッツ・オブ・タスマニア号はデボン・ポートの桟橋にゆっくりと接岸している。 船内放送の大音声で目が覚める、寝ぼけ眼で、船窓を眺めると、野原と家が見える。 「これは、タスマニアの光景だ！」その景色に思わず感動する。「とうとう、タスマニアに来たのだ！」.。 そして、船から降りて、波止場の傍のターミナルハウスの待合室で少しの間、休息とる。部屋はメルボルンのより、小さく、待合の肘掛け椅子が30席ぐらいで、受付のご婦人が、親切に、朝食を食べるところや、何時にバスに来るかを教えてくれる。 朝食のレストランは、そこから歩いて五分ぐらいの所にあり、そこへは、小さな事務所から、わざわざ予約の電話を入れてくれる。そのレストランは朝食のため、朝6時から8時まで間、開いている。

On the way back to the terminal house, I see again the beautiful Spirits of Tasmania. She looks busy preparing to sail for Melbourne with new passengers and cars.

ターミナルハウスへの帰りに、スピリッツ・オブ・タスマニアの美しい姿を、再度、眺める。彼女は新しい客と車を乗せてメルボルンへ帰る準備で忙しそうだ。

I ride on a Red Line bus at the terminal house. The bus runs on the high way route 1. from Devon Port to Hobart for about four and a half hours. It's a lot of fans to see the views on the roadside of Tasmanian fields, forests or small towns through the window. Then I realize that there are some flocks of the cows or sheep grazing in these wide fields. Now I remember some the big super chain companies advertisement of "Tasmanian beef "on TV. So, I guess these places might be the home of the famous Tasmanian Beef and renew the memory.
Both side of the high way road, there are lots of glass fields and eucalyptus forests, but there are only a few houses except a town or city. These views continue for hours and hours.

ターミナルハウスからレッドラインバスに乗って、ホバートへ向う。 バスはデボンポートからホバートまで、４時間半、ルート１号線ハイウエイを快適に走る。
車窓から見えるタスマニアの原野や森、そして、途中の小さな町の景色を眺めながらの旅は、結構、楽しめる。そして、この広い原野で、たくさんの牛や羊の群れが草を食んでいるのがみえる。そういえば、最近、あるスーパーチェーン店のテレビの広告で、「タスマニア・ビーフ」の宣伝をしているのを思い出し、 そうか、ここが、タスマニア・ビーフの原産地なのだと、認識を新たにする。
ハイウエイの両サイドは、草原とユーカリの林や森が広がり、市街地や町以外には、人家も人も、まばらで、この同じような景色が、何時間も続く。

Sheep 羊      

 I am surprised by the scenery of lots of seeps are grazing in the meadows. I wonder how they gather these seep scattered widely around.
Anyway, sheep farming is one of the important industries in this country, isn't it?
 Sometimes I see some horses in the fields, I imagine, they might breed the Thoroughbred, which the squatter mounted on, just like the lyrics in the famous Australian song of Waltzing Matilda.

数多くの羊の群れが草を食んでいる光景を良く見かける、この広い広い牧草地に散らばった羊をどうやって集めるか不思議だ。
まあ、ともかく牧羊はなんといっても、この国の主要産業の一つだ。

ときどき、この地の牧草地で馬をみかける。「この馬は、オーストラリアの有名な歌で、ウオルチィン・マチチルダの歌詞にある、大地主がまたがったというサラブレッドを育てているのではなかろうかと、想像したりする・・

Calm street and houses of Launceston

The bus takeｓ a rest at Launceston for half an hour and waitｓ the passengers from another bus line. The atmosphere of this town seems peaceful and calm and some houses are historical.

バスは、ローンチェストンで、別の路線からのお客と合流するため、３０分の休憩する。この街の佇まいは、のどかで静かに思える。いくつかの家々は、何か歴史を感じさせるものがある。

A lady, next to the seat, speaks to me. "I wonder where are you from?" I reply "I am from Hiroshima Japan" " Oh! really! I have visited Japan once". so she says. Then I have a talk with her about the trees or fields out of the bus window, for a while. She talks lots of interesting stories about the things on both sides of the road.
She looks a little elderly but healthy.  She lives alone in Hobart city. She lost her husband several years ago. She seems something graceful. She does walking every morning around Mt.Wellington near her house. From her stories, I understand why she looks so healthy.

隣の席のご婦人から、「どこから来られたのですか」と話しかけられ、「私は、日本は広島市から来ました」、「ああ、そうですか、私も、かって日本に行ったことがありますよ」。
とういことで、しばらくは、窓の外を流れる景色の中の、木の名前や、野原の様子などについて、いろいろと、興味深い話をしてもらう。
彼女は、少しご年配のようだが、健康そうだ。今は、一人でホバート市に住んでおられ、数年前に、ご主人を亡くされたとか、毎朝、家の近くのウェリントン山のあたりをウオーキングしているということで、彼女の元気な理由がうなずける。

DAY 2 Landing Melbourne

2014 April 24

I open the exit door. There are many buses are waiting for my boarding and expressing their welcome there.  That is the bus terminal of the airport. My first step in Australia now begins from here.

出口の扉を開けると、そこには、多くのバスが動き回り、多くのバスが私の搭乗を待ち、歓迎しているように見える。そう、そこは空港のバスターミナルだ！
オーストラリアへの第一歩は、ここ、メルボルン空港のバスターミナルに降り立ったときから始る。

There, I find the"Sky Bus" which ticket  I have reserved in the net.
The bus is speeding along the high way to the central city of Melbourne. I enjoy watching the flying landscapes outside of the window. On the way, many beautiful skyscraper bills are welcoming my visiting.
Our Sky Bus arrives at Coach Terminal (under the basement of Southern Cross Station) around 3 p.m.

そこで、インタ－ネットで切符予約をした目当てのSky Bus に乗る。バスは高速道路を快速に飛ばし、メルボルン市の中心街に向かう。窓の外を流れる景色はすばらしい。
メルボルンの中心街の新しい、ビル郡が私には目もくれず静かたたずんでいる。
乗ったスカイバスは、午後3時頃、サザンクロス駅の地下にあるコーチターミナル ( Coach Terminal  に到着する。

Southern Cross Station is a large terminal of railways station and buses station (at the basement).
From here many railways and bus lines are connected to the countryside in Victoria.

サザンクロス駅は、鉄道やバスの巨大なターミナル駅。ここからたくさんの鉄道やバス」がビクトリア州内外の各地とつながっている。

I have been looking around the station area for about two hours. There are lots of shops and restaurants on the third floor.
I have had a snack for lunch there.

約２時間ばかり、そこの駅ビルを見て回る。 駅ビルの三階にはたくさんの店やレストランがあり、そこで、軽く、昼食を済ませる。

There are many old and new buildings mixed up in the center of Melbourne city.

It looks like each of these old and new building is competing for its beauty.

メルボルン市の中心街には、古いビルと新しいビルが混在している。

これらの古い、また、新しい建物は、それぞれはその美を競っているようだ。

From here, I go to Melbourne Harbor.by the tram. Then I go to Tasmania by ship.

ここから、次は、メルボルン港へ電車で向かう。
そして、船に乗り込み、タスマニアに行く。

Melbourne Harbor（メルボルン港）

At first, I want to go to Tasmania by plane, but I choose it by ship. Because I find the name of the ship is very attractive and staying one night on the ship looks very interesting.
The ship's name is "Spirit of  Tasmania". I like this name. It looks like expressing of Tasmanian mind.
Spirits of Tasmania has a gross tonnage of about 30 thousand tonnes and Its overall length is 194 meters. She is a big ferry
.She sales for Devon Port in Tasmania leave at 7:30 p.m and arrive at .6:00 a.m.
She is waiting for my tonight boarding at the harbor.

最初は、飛行機で直行しようと思ったが、船の名前が魅力的だったのと一晩船に泊まって行く旅も面白いと考え船を選択した。
その船の名は「スピリッツ・オブ・タスマニア号」。いい名前だ、なんだか元気になる。





ｓスピリッツが好い！なにかタスマニアの心意気というか、色気というか、そんな雰囲気のある名前のようで、気に入った。
スピリッツオブタスマニア号は、総トン数が約３万トン、全長１９４ｍの大きなフェリーで、
船は、夕方7時30分にメルボルン港を出航し、翌朝の朝6時にタスマニアのデボン・ポートに接岸し、同じ便がタスマニアからも出る。
港では、彼女が私の今晩の乗船を待っていてくれる。

Four berth cabin (4人合部屋）

I receive the key of my room. The room is a four berth cabin. Fortunately or not, I use the big cabin alone tonight. I expect some  Australian's for having a talk at this room together. But there isn't tonight. I can use the toilet alone tonight.
 I feel lonely and hungry a little. So I go up to the upper deck and see the scene of the night harbor of Melbourne. Now my Spirits of Tasmania is sailing out from the harbor. I am impressed deeply with the scene which the harbor gradually retiring.
Many bright lights around the wharf and near the town are celebrating the departure of our sailing.
It's getting cold outside, So I go to the restaurant in the middle of the deck for the dinner.

部屋は4人相部屋を予約した。その鍵を受け取り、部屋に荷物を置く。
その日は、良かったどうか、私一人だけで、その部屋を占領してしまうことになる。
オーストラリアの見知らぬ相席の相手がどんな人か、少し、期待と不安があったが、たった独りのため、やや、拍子抜けをする。 ただ、トイレは独占だ。
デッキへ出てみる。

ちょうど、船出のとき、静かに出港する、港や街の灯りが、この船出を祝っているかのように、明るく煌々と灯っている。
寒くなりかけたので、レストランへ今宵の晩餐を求めて、デッキの中央部へ移動する。

DAY 1 Departure

Have you ever been Tasmania?

"Have you ever been to Tasmania in Australia?" My friend Michael says "It 's a very attractive island. Everywhere you go there, you'll find historically or geologically miracle treasures."
"OK!, then, when shall we go there?""Let's go Now!"

「オーストラリアのタスマニアにいったことが、あるかい？」友達のマイケルが言うには、「そこはたいそう魅惑的な島だよ！どこへ行っても、歴史的にも、地質学的にも、すばらしい宝物が発見できる所だ！」 「わかった！で、いつ、行こうか？」 「今、でしょう！」


Departure  2014 April 23

Fukuoka Airport is buzzing with activity, and I have to dodge between tour groups and businessmen as I roll my giant suitcase to international departures.  The immigration officer checks my passport silently and waits for the next passenger.
Now the curtain of the theater "Lone Ranger" has opened!  Let's go to Australia!  I am excited to think about unknown travel.  My destination is through Melbourne to Tasmania.

Fukuoka International Airport/ Departure
(福岡国際空港/出発口）

福岡空港は活気を伴ってざわめいている、私は、巨大なスーツケースを引きずり、ツアーの団体やビジネスマンの人々をさけながら、国際線出発ロビーに向かう。出入国管理官は、たんたんと私のパスポートのチェックをすませ次の旅行者を待っている。
さあ、いよいよオーストラリアに向け出発だ！
行く先はメルボルンからタスマニア！一人旅の始まり、気張って行こう。感激の一瞬！

I board Cathy airline（ＣＸ5381） at Fukuoka Airport and fly to Hong Kong. then board the connecting flight(CX105)  to Melbourne.The atmosphere of the departure's lobby is something special with hopes and anxieties. It's images will remain for a long time in the memories.

福岡空港から、キャセイ・パシフィク航空ＣＸ5381便に搭乗し、香港で、ＣＸ105便に乗り換え、メルボルンに向かう。出発ロビーは、期待と不安とが交錯した独特な雰囲気があり、誰にとっても特に記憶に残る所だ。

 Many passengers or businessmen are waiting for the next departure at the transit area. Some of them eat Mac hamburgers with reading, talking, meditating or napping with each own style.

 Those people are not only from local but far from distant countries. I greet with a lady taking her children is a Mongolian.
 The passengers including me who are staying here, are enough international traveling people!

香港空港の乗りつぎ待合室には、多くの旅行客やビジネマンが次の出発便の搭乗をまっている。人々は思い思いに、マックのハンバーガなどを食べながら、なにやら書類やメモに目を通している人や、考えに耽っている人など、人さまざまなところが、好い雰囲気だ。

これらの人々は、近隣の国から来た人だけでなく、はるか遠くの国から来た人もいる。
私と挨拶した子供連れのご夫人は、なんとモンゴリアから来た人です。
国際空港の名のとおり、私を含め、ここで時間待ちしている人は、みんな国際的旅人。
「みなさん、道中ご無事で！、ごきげんよう！」

I board the Cathay Pacific Airways " CX105 " which leaves Hong Kong at midnight and arrives at Melbourne International Airport before noon.
In the morning,  I can see brown Australia land is spreading far to the horizon below the window.
Ｉｔ is one of my memorial experiences to see  Australia land by my own eyes. And it is a miracle feeling to know that I am now on the southern hemisphere.

You have to fill in the question of " Incoming Passenger Card". before landing on Australia and hand it to the immigrant officer with the passport. In my case this time, I indulge in watching movies or drinking, then I neglect to fill in the card thoroughly. They give me a kind chance to complete it. I can write and complete it by the side of the immigrant officers.'s desk. Then I show them it with my passport. They check the card with my passport.

As I apply for ETA （Electric Travel Authority ) system and give them my passport information by using the Internet, they have my information already on their computer. The customer's officer glances at me with my passport and he points me the exit door to the way out. Then I open the door and find the terminal station where many buses are waiting for us in the light sunshine.

キャセイ CX105便に乗換え、香港を真夜中に飛び立ち、昼前にメルボルン国際空港に到着します。朝になると、茶色の広大なオーストラリア大陸が飛行機の窓の下からずっと地平線の彼方まで広がっている景色が見えます。オーストラリア大陸を自分の目で見ることは、私にとって、ひとつの記念すべき貴重な経験です。そして、私は今南半球の上に居ると思うと、不思議な感覚につつまれる。

オーストラリアに入国の際は、機内で”Incoming Passenger Card"の質問事項に記入します。そのカードとパスポートを入国管理の係官に提出しなければならなりません。
私の場合、機内の映画に見とれて、うっかりして、カードに未記入箇所があったので、入国管理の窓口の近くのデスクで記入し、提出する。二人の係官から、チェックを受ける。


短期滞在でオーストラリアに入国する場合は、パスポート情報を出発前にあらかじめ、インターネットなどを使って登録するシステム（ＥＴＡ=Electric Travel Authority)があり、登録はすませてあるので、問題ないと思っている。
その、おかげかどうかわからないが、係官はちょっと私の方をチラッと見て、出口の扉の方角を示し、そちらへ進むよう促し、その扉を開けると、そこにはバスターミナルです。明るい日差が差し込んで、多くのバスが我々の乗車を待っています。
